Lutron Palladiom Shades and Keypads: Quiet Luxury for Long Island Homes.

By the Aurora team··4 min read

Palladiom is Lutron's most refined family of shades, keypads and thermostats. It is designed to be seen, which is exactly why the details matter. This guide covers what makes Palladiom different and how to plan it well.

What Palladiom is

Palladiom is a design family within the Lutron HomeWorks ecosystem. It includes exposed motorized roller shades, wall keypads and a matching thermostat, all built around the same idea: hardware that is beautiful enough to leave in plain view. Instead of hiding the shade in a pocket, Palladiom celebrates the bracket, the roller and the bottom rail as architectural details.

Palladiom motorized shades

Palladiom shades are mounted on solid aluminum or brass brackets with concealed fasteners. Lutron's specifications describe a drive that is genuinely quiet, measured at 35 dBA from three feet away, and shades that move in unison, staying aligned within one eighth of an inch at all times. On a wall of tall windows, that alignment is the difference between a room that looks composed and one that looks busy.

  • Size. Single shades can reach up to 12 feet wide and 14 feet tall.
  • Light gaps. Symmetrical gaps at the sides can be as small as half an inch.
  • Fabrics. Sheer, translucent and room-darkening fabrics are available, so one room can soften glare while a bedroom goes fully dark.
  • Finishes. Brackets and the matching Palladiom bottom rail come in a range of metal finishes to suit the hardware in the room.
  • Reliability. Shades remember their limits through power failures for the life of the product.

Wired or wire-free

Palladiom shades are available in wired and wireless configurations. For homes that are already finished, Lutron also offers wire-free Palladiom shades that run on battery power, so motorized shading can be added without running new cable to every window.

Palladiom keypads

The Palladiom keypad is a minimal design with large, softly backlit buttons and custom engraving. It is offered in a range of finishes, including glass and metal, so it can disappear into a plaster wall or stand out as a deliberate detail. Because each button is engraved with a clear name such as "Dinner" or "Morning," guests understand it at a glance.

Palladiom thermostat

The HomeWorks Palladiom thermostat was designed to sit beside Palladiom keypads with matching proportions and finishes. Lutron notes that its backlight adjusts automatically to the light in the room, so it stays readable by day without glaring in a dark bedroom at night. It can bring heating and cooling into the same scenes as your lights and shades, and with the right interface it can work with VRF and split systems as well as conventional HVAC.

Planning Palladiom in a Long Island home

  • Plan blocking early. Lutron requires Palladiom brackets to be mounted to blocking or other structural material. In new construction or a renovation, this is easy to add before drywall; afterward, it takes more work.
  • Think about the sun. South- and west-facing glass on the South Shore and the East End can heat a room quickly in summer. Shades can be scheduled to follow the sun, lowering before glare arrives and rising when it passes.
  • Choose fabrics by room. Living spaces usually favor sheer or translucent fabrics that keep the view. Bedrooms and media rooms usually need room-darkening fabric.
  • Match the metal. Brackets, rails, keypads and thermostats look best when their finishes are chosen together with the door and cabinet hardware.

Palladiom in Long Island homes

Palladiom suits the tall glass of modern East End homes and the large windows of North Shore colonials alike. On waterfront properties, where morning and late-afternoon sun comes in low across the water, a well-planned shade schedule helps protect floors, art and furniture from fading while keeping the view. We plan and install Palladiom across Nassau and Suffolk counties, from Great Neck and Roslyn to Southampton and Montauk.

How Palladiom fits a larger system

Palladiom runs on Lutron HomeWorks, which means shades can move with lighting scenes, follow astronomical schedules, and appear in the same app as the rest of the home. Read our Lutron HomeWorks guide to see how the system comes together, or learn how we approach home automation on Long Island.

Aurora Automated Technologies designs and installs Lutron Palladiom shades, keypads and thermostats throughout Long Island, New York City, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Frequently asked questions

How large can a Palladiom shade be?

A single Palladiom shade can be up to 12 feet wide and 14 feet tall, according to Lutron's specifications.
